Chair Pierce, Commissioner Zapple appointed to state and national committees
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – Two members of the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners have been selected to serve on committees and councils at the state or national level.
Chair LeAnn Pierce and Commissioner Rob Zapple have both been appointed to the N.C. Association of County Commissioners’ (NCACC) Legislative Goals Committee. This committee works to shape the NCACC’s agenda and priorities for a two-year period.
“This committee is where local concerns get a seat at the table when the state sets its priorities,” Pierce said. “As local officials, we know firsthand what our communities need. Serving on it means I can make sure the issues facing New Hanover County get heard.”
Pierce was elected to a four-year term starting in December 2022 and was selected by her fellow Commissioners to serve as Chair of the Board in December 2025.
Currently in his third term as a Commissioner, Zapple is also serving on the NCACC’s Board of Directors as well as Co-Chair of the NCACC’s Agriculture, Environmental and Cultural Natural Resources Steering Committee.
In addition to his work at the state level, Zapple has also been reappointed to several committees and councils with the National Association of Counties (NACo). This year, he will serve as Vice-Chair for the Environment, Energy and Land Use Policy Steering Committee, as well as a member of three councils – Arts and Culture Innovation, Healthy Counties Innovation and Resilient Counties Innovation.
“Advocating for our local communities at the state and national level is so important as our constituents rely on us to be their voice in those settings,” Zapple said. “Representing New Hanover County and southeastern North Carolina is a privilege and I’m honored to make sure the needs we face are given thought and voice during the legislative process.”
